The following guide explains how to update a dropdown list in Excel. To do this, you will first need a spreadsheet that uses a dropdown list. If you have not done this already, we would recommend checking out the guide below.
Updating a spreadsheet is useful if there are additional teams entering the competition. This is common with SSF competitions. Updating them ensures that they will show correct when creating your fixtures.
Updating a Data Validation
1. Run the new list of competition entries
You can follow the below guide on how to do this.
2. Update List on Existing Spreadsheet
Once you have the new list, it will be best to override what is already there. This can be done by copying and pasting the new updated list of teams, into the fixture spreadsheet.
3. Click on Data, then Data Validation
First ensure that you click on a cell that has a dropdown already in place. Then, click on 'Data' then 'Data Validation'
4. Update the source
There are two ways you can do this. You can either manually change the number of the rows, or delete it and highlight the field again.
If you change the number, you will just need to increase the last number listed. EG: In this example, it has gone from 31 teams, to 32 teams. If you increased this number to 32, it would then include the new additions.
Alternatively, if you clear the source, you can then highlight the entire list again.
5. Apply to other cells and save
You should tick the box that states 'Apply these changes to all other cells with the same settings'. This will apply it to all of the relevant cells.
You can then press 'save'.
