How do I complete a DBS check?

Modified on Wed, 15 Jan at 3:34 PM

DBS Checks are completed through the clubs. Clubs will have access to a system called MapItAndGo, where all DBS checks for clubs in Wales are completed.

An individual cannot request a DBS through this system without it being done through a Club. If you are a Referee or League official, this might be done through your Area Association or League instead.

We would recommend contacting your clubs safeguarding officer, who will be able to start this process for you.

If you are unsure, or have any questions regarding how to get a DBS, please raise a ticket and we will advise accordingly.

1. Ensure you have requested three forms of ID from the individual. (I do this before creating the application as some people submit the application but then do not get back to us with three forms of ID to enable us to submit the application). Link to ID checking guidelines: ID checking guidelines for standard/enhanced DBS check applications from 1 July 2021 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

3. You will then arrive as this page below. If you scroll down you will be able to fill in the form.

4. Add Organisation (e.g., club name, FAW).

5. Once you select a particular role it should auto tick the appropriate boxes/options, so you do not need to worry about this.

6. Fill in surname, forename, create unique username (e.g. AMYDEARN), email address and COMET ID for the individual. Password will generate automatically.

7. Select Create application.

8. When you look at the applications, the status will come up as ‘New Application’.

9. The individual will receive a link via email to complete the application and once they have submitted their end, the next action will come up as ‘ID verification’. To get to this login and arrive at the home screen again, but this time search customer name see pic below, and they will come up.

10. You will then need to complete the verification stage. click on the Edit box, third from the end link.

Once you click on edit it will go through to the validation page, see Below.

11. Scroll down and Select Route 1 validation. Input the details of the ID you have been provided.

12. Tick yes for current address details checked against documentation and evidence seen and checked.

13. Input your name.

14. Scroll down and select submit, which will show as the picture below.

The application will then show as awaiting result, as shown below.

Remember a DBS result can take from 72 hours to 60 working days and can only be escalated after this period.
